Paragliding in Nepal is an alternative adventurous way to sight-see in Nepal. There are various paragliding companies, mostly based in the lakeside town of Pokhara that gives those who travel here a chance to enjoy mountain views while exploring the hills and valleys through flight. Most of the flights do not require much walking so do not expect a trekking experience, but more a short walk and then takeoff.

During flight, the paragliding travelers fly over rice fields, local country sides and traditional villages. Some travelers get an in-flight visit from a curious vulture or eagle that come to inspect the new paragliding creatures of the air.

For the first time paragliding traveler, there are tandem flights where the passenger gets to fly in front of a trained pilot in complete safety. Both the pilot and the passenger have their own harness which are attached to each other and the wing. The harnesses are not just built for safety but comfort as well. For the more experienced paraglider, companies will let you fly on your own after a small test to ensure that you will have a safe flight. Depending on your style you can customize a flight from calm floating experience to acrobatic tumbling through the air – you decide!

For those who travel to Nepal and want to venture through the country via paragliding for multiple days, some companies offer a few days training course and then you and a small group of other travelers will do cross-country gliding stopping along the way to camp and have a hot meal prepared for them by hired (by the company) porters. This type of travel program can last for a few days or weeks if desired and make for a unique way to travel through Nepal and see different towns that many travelers do not get the chance to see. These types of adventures should be planned ahead of time to ensure room availability on program.

Of course safety is important when flying, so paragliding is only done in good weather. The flying season is usually from mid October until the beginning of May with the clearest and more favorable weather for mountain views in the months of November, December, and January.

For paragliding, it is best to be prepared with strong shoes and a windproof jacket. If sensitive to motion sickness it is recommended to take some sort of non-drowsy medicine well before the flight.
