Namche Bazaar

When you hear the name Namche Bazaar, there may be a few thoughts that come to mind. Many travelers would associate the name with that of Sagaramatha or Mount Everest. Others would imagine the home town to the many famous mountaineering guides - the Sherpas and some might even know it as the entrance to the Everest region. In fact, all of these thoughts are true.

Namche Bazaar is the famous Khumbu Himal town. It sits at an elevation of 3440 meters and is close to the highest peak in the world, Sagarmatha. Namche Bazaar is the entrance to the Everest region and is a popular resting or final destination for trekkers. As for those who travel here as professional or dedicated newbies to the mountaineering sport, it is an ideal resting place before they attempt the ascent to the highest point on earth.

Namche Bazaar is used as the starting point for trekking to the other high elevation towns like Thyangboche, Debuche, Periche, Pangboche, Lobuche and Gorakhshep which are all famous for their own reasons in the Everest region. Namche is the gateway to the Sagarmatha National Park.

For those wanting to travel to or near the highest place on earth, Namche Bazaar, is an ideal stopping ground. You can reach Namche from Kathmandu. It is about 241 kilometers from Kathmandu and the distance is usually covered within 15 days by trekking. For those without the time or desire to trek for over 2 weeks, you can fly from Kathmandu to Lukla or to the highest airstrip in the world at Syangboche in the Sagarmatha region.

Namche Bazaar is used to seeing those who travel from all over the world, so the town offers different accomodations in hopes of pleasing everyone's different preferences. There are standard accommodations as well as a few more lavish available in Namche Bazaar as well as the other trekking destinations mentioned above.
